The history of Bodega Sa Cabana: tradition and winemaking excellence in Mallorca

In the heart of Binissalem, Mallorca’s most emblematic wine region, lies Bodega Sa Cabana, a project that combines tradition, passion and excellence. Founded in an environment of great historical richness, our winery not only stands out for the quality of its wines, but also for the legacy it carries with it, carefully preserved by its founder, Mrs. Francisca Bonet Suñer.

Roots that tell stories

Mrs. Francisca Bonet Suñer is much more than the owner of our winery. At 86 years old, this visionary woman embodies the essence of Sa Cabana. A descendant of a knight who helped Jaume I in the conquest of Mallorca in 1229, Ms. Francisca grew up surrounded by land in Ses Salines, today converted into the hotel Ca’n Bonico. From an early age, she was immersed in agriculture and the cultivation of vineyards, which gave her a profound knowledge of the countryside and the winemaking tradition.

The Sa Cabana vineyard started in Binissalem more than 22 years ago, covering 10 hectares. Initially, production focused on international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay, the fruit of which was sold to other wineries. However, in 2018, the Codolá Bonet family decided to make a fundamental change: to make their own wines.

Innovation with respect for the earth

The commitment to tradition is combined with a modern and sustainable approach to cultivation. Over time, native varieties such as Callet, Manto Negro and Giró Ros, adapted to the Mallorcan climate, have been integrated into our wines. In addition, at Sa Cabana we prioritise the use of organic fertilisers and the manual selection of the grapes, a process that ensures the highest quality in each harvest.

Family tradition that transcends generations

Together with her husband, Miguel Codolá Camps, Mrs. Francisca Bonet Suñer founded the Hoteles Valentín chain, which today has 13 establishments in Mallorca, Menorca, Cádiz, Mexico and Cuba. The decision to produce their own wines also responded to the desire to serve them in their hotels, bringing a little of the Mallorcan wine tradition to their guests.
