Botella de Xisca Giró Ros 2024

Sa Cabana’s wines have received international recognition at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2026

At Sa Cabana, we believe that every wine begins long before it reaches the glass. It begins in the soil, in the patient observation of the vineyard, in every timely decision made, and in the quiet care that accompanies the entire process: from the harvest to the ageing.

That is why receiving international recognition is always cause for celebration, but also a sign of validation. The latest edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards has brought some very special news for our winery and for Mallorcan wines: four of our wines have been recognised at one of the most prestigious competitions in the world of wine.

Our white wines, Sa Cabana Giró Ros 2024 and Xisca Giró Ros 2024, have been awarded a Silver medal, both scoring 91 out of 100. In addition, Sa Cabana Chardonnay 2024 and Viure Callet 2024 have been awarded a Bronze medal, scoring 88 points each.

Beyond the medals, these results inspire us because they speak of a journey. Of a way of working the vineyard with respect, precision and a very clear focus on the landscape around us. They also reflect something in which we believe deeply: the enormous potential of Mallorca’s indigenous grape varieties and of a Mediterranean approach to viticulture that looks to the future without losing sight of its roots.

Decanter World Wine Awards: an internationally recognised accolade

To understand the significance of these awards, it is worth taking a moment to consider Decanter’s history and its standing within the world of wine.

Founded in London in 1975, Decanter has established itself over the years as a leading publication for winemakers, sommeliers, distributors, international buyers and specialist journalists. Its perspective goes far beyond mere criticism: it examines wine from its very origins, from the terroir and cultivation techniques, through to developments in oenology and new ways of understanding wine tourism.

In 2004, the organisation launched the DWWA (Decanter World Wine Awards), now regarded as the world’s largest wine competition, with over 15,000 entries judged each year across its various categories.

Each wine is assessed using a blind tasting system, carried out by panels of international experts. This means that the judges do not know the identity of the producer, the brand name or the exact origin of the bottle at the time of tasting. Quality, therefore, is the sole criterion for assessment.

Each year, the judging panel brings together some of the sector’s most respected professionals, including Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and international critics. Scores are awarded out of 100, and depending on the score achieved, wines may be awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold medals, as well as competing for the top honours of Platinum and Best in Show.

For a winery such as Sa Cabana, receiving this recognition is a source of immense joy. Not only because of the international visibility it brings, but also because it highlights a way of making wine in Mallorca based on care, identity and the constant pursuit of balance.

Sa Cabana wines win awards at Decanter

Each of the labels featured in this edition reflects a different aspect of our estate. Some express the freshness and brightness of Mediterranean white wines; others, the depth of our indigenous red grape varieties. They all share the same philosophy: to produce wines that are authentic, elegant and deeply rooted in their origins.

Sa Cabana’s white wines have received particularly high praise from the international judging panel. For us, this recognition confirms the direction we have been pursuing with great enthusiasm: fresh, precise whites full of character, capable of conveying the uniqueness of the Mallorcan landscape.

We’ll tell you a bit more about each of them in detail.

Sa Cabana Giró Ros 2024

Sa Cabana Giró Ros 2024 is a single-varietal white wine made from 100% Giró Ros grapes, sourced from a young vineyard planted in 2019.

In the vineyard, the focus is on preserving the grapes’ natural freshness. This is why the grapes are harvested early, with the timing carefully planned to maintain a lively, balanced acidity. The grapes are harvested by hand into 12-kg crates and are then kept for 24 hours in a cold store at 4 ºC.

At the winery, the grapes are completely destemmed and undergo gentle pneumatic pressing, followed by controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The result is a wine with an alcohol content of 13 per cent, with a clean, bright straw-yellow colour and greenish highlights.

On the nose, there are distinct aromas of white fruit, particularly pear, alongside floral notes of almond blossom and Mediterranean hints of fennel. On the palate, it is dry, pleasant and full-bodied, with an elegant, lingering and refreshing finish, where the fruit takes centre stage.

Xisca Giró Ros 2024

Xisca Giró Ros 2024, for its part, is also made from 100% Giró Ros grapes, sourced from a six-year-old vineyard. As with Sa Cabana Giró Ros, the grapes are harvested by hand at an early stage, in 12-kg crates, followed by cooling in a cold store at 4 ºC for 24 hours.

What sets it apart is the ageing process. Xisca is aged for between 3 and 4 months in new 500-litre barrels: one made of French oak and the other of acacia wood. This very limited and exclusive production amounts to just 2,000 litres for this vintage.

With an alcohol content of 13.0 per cent, it has a bright straw-yellow colour with hints of new gold. On the nose, delicate toasted notes stand out, beautifully integrated with hints of white flowers. On the palate, it is dry, fresh, well-structured and elegant.

For us, Xisca is a very special wine. Not only because of the way it is made, but also because of what it represents within the winery: a way of approaching the Giró Ros grape variety with depth, respect and a constant quest for expression.

Sa Cabana Chardonnay 2024

Sa Cabana Chardonnay 2024 comes from one of the estate’s most established vineyards, which is approximately 22 years old.

Following the manual harvest into small crates and a 24-hour temperature-controlled rest at 4 °C, the grapes are completely destemmed and undergo gentle pneumatic pressing before fermenting in stainless steel tanks.

Once fermentation is complete, the wine undergoes continuous batonnage on its fine lees for two months. This process imparts greater aromatic complexity, body and a more enveloping texture.

With an alcohol content of 13.0 per cent, it has a clean, brilliant golden-yellow colour with hints of new gold. On the nose, it offers high aromatic intensity, characterised by tropical notes of pineapple and mango.

On the palate, it stands out for its dry attack, its smooth texture, its full body and a long, persistent and fruity finish.

The expression of the terroir: our distinguished red wine

Although white wines now play a very important role in our winery, indigenous red grape varieties are also an essential part of our identity. That is why this recognition of Viure Callet means so much to us.

Viure Callet is a single-varietal red wine made from 100 per cent Callet, one of Mallorca’s most representative indigenous grape varieties. It comes from a young vineyard on the estate and offers a fresh, balanced and very authentic expression of this grape.

The grapes are harvested by hand into 12-kg crates and are kept at 4 °C for 24 hours before the winemaking process begins.

Once the grapes have been completely destemmed, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, with regular pumping over to carefully extract the aromas, colour and flavours characteristic of the skins.

With an alcohol content of 12.0 per cent, it has a clean, bright purple-red colour with violet hues. On the nose, there are hints of black fruits, particularly plum. On the palate, it offers a dry attack, a fresh mid-palate and a balanced profile, with pleasant tannins that invite you to continue savouring it.

From the vineyard to the winery: an approach that shines through in the glass

Behind every award-winning wine lies a meticulous process, but also a way of understanding the land. At Sa Cabana, every decision is made with the aim of protecting the natural expression of the fruit and preserving what makes our landscape unique.

Choosing the right time for the grape harvest is one of the most important steps. With varieties such as Giró Ros, harvesting early helps to maintain high natural acidity, which is key to producing fresh, balanced Mediterranean whites with good length.

Hand-picking is another cornerstone of our work. All the grapes are picked into individual 12-kg crates, ensuring that the berries are not crushed before they reach the winery. This initial care makes a significant difference to the final quality of the wine.

The crates are then immediately transferred to a cold store at 4 °C, where they remain for 24 hours. This process helps to preserve the fruit’s aromatic integrity, prevents unwanted fermentation and allows for a cleaner, more delicate extraction during pressing or maceration.

They are technical processes, yes, but they are also gestures of respect. Respect for the grapes, for the timing of each variety, and for the work that begins long before the wine is bottled.

A firm commitment to Mallorca’s identity

The results achieved at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards fill us with pride, but also with a sense of responsibility. For Sa Cabana, these accolades are not an end in themselves, but an invitation to continue working with the same dedication.

Today, our white wines are one of the winery’s key focuses. Through them, we seek to capture the freshness, light and distinctive character of the Mediterranean landscape, with precise and elegant winemaking techniques.

At the same time, we are delighted that native Mallorcan varieties such as Giró Ros and Callet are finding their place on such a demanding international stage. Their recognition confirms something we at Sa Cabana have felt for some time: that Mallorcan wines have a voice of their own – one that is noble and profoundly unique.

We invite you to discover these award-winning wines and to share with us the value of a winemaking project that is rooted in the land, respects the island’s winemaking tradition and looks to the future with enthusiasm.
